How to plan for an emergency

To help in your caring role during these uncertain times the government has advised that Carers create an emergency plan for the person you care for. This can be used in circumstances where help from other people/services may be needed to deliver care. Please find the template for the plan here.

Having an emergency plan in place can give peace of mind to both you and the person you care for.

Typically, an emergency plan should hold details of the condition of the person you care for; personal care needs and details of medication should also be included.

The plan should be kept in a safe, accessible place for anyone who needs to come into the home in the event that you are not able to provide care e.g. if you are taken into hospital unexpectedly.

The emergency plan can save lots of time if care needs to be put in place quickly and will ensure that the person you care for continues to get the care they need whilst you are unable to provide it.
