Substance Misuse

If you are caring for someone who struggles with substance misuse we are here to help support you

It is estimated that 16% of adults report hazardous levels of drinking and with the deaths related to drug misuse rising by 46% since 2008 there are many people caring for someone who struggle with substance misuse. Caring for someone who struggles with substance misuse can be incredibly difficult and isolating due to stigma around the substance. We are here to support you and to help break down these stigmas.

We have a dedicated lead for substance misuse who can support you in your caring role and advocate on your behalf if you need help communicating with professional services. Navigating the mental health and substance misuse services can be difficult and when under the pressure that your caring role may put on you it can sometimes be helpful to have another set of eyes and ears to support you.

Tom is our lead for substance misuse Carers and she co-facilitates a bi-monthly information and peer support session which covers different topics relating to addiction. For more information and to sign up for the group or to access our services for substance misuse Carers please email Tom:

Peer Support Groups

Our peer support groups give Carers an opportunity to share lived experiences with other Carers who may be in similar situations to themselves. They allow Carers to co-produce the groups and the topics covered each month as well as many of our groups being co-facilitated with Carers. It also allows for Carers to feedback to the Centre, experiences they have had with services within the borough and help us develop methods of improving the services provided for Carers. If you would like to co-facilitate one of our peer support groups please click the link below, we would like to hear from you. Please email

Our aim is always to support Carers’ to care for themselves, so they are able to continue caring for someone else.

We will always work hard to raise Carer Awareness, to celebrate Carers and be the support and advice service you can always rely on.
